Types of Removable Denture (Prosthesis) Teeth

Removable prostheses are of two types: complete and partial.

1- Full Dentures: If you have lost all your teeth, full dentures are the most suitable option for you. This is achieved in two different ways: The first is the use of ‘immediate’ dentures, which are ready immediately after your teeth are extracted. These dentures are fitted immediately after the teeth have been extracted and are a temporary solution. When permanent dentures are ready, these temporary dentures are replaced. The other option is to use traditional (permanent) dentures. In this case, your mouth is prepared in advance after the teeth are extracted and the dentures are made to the size of your mouth.

2- Partial Dentures: If you are missing several teeth, partial dentures are the most suitable option. These prostheses are based on your remaining teeth and are a financially viable option when dental implants are not possible.

The dentist takes impressions of the dentures and sends them to a laboratory. In this laboratory, artificial teeth are made to match your original teeth and the dentures are customised. In cases where there is discomfort in terms of appearance, veneers can be applied over the real teeth, but this preference is up to you.

Frequently asked questions about prostheses

How long does the treatment with a prosthesis last?

The first steps involve tackling underlying problems, from gum disease and cavities to existing infections. Once these have been addressed, we move on to the second stage, which is designing your dentures. This usually takes a week and a lot of design consideration. At this stage your dentists take great care to give you a comfortable and suitable set of teeth, and this includes making several models and moulds for your jaw and examining how your jaws close.

All measurements and dimensions must be accurate before the kit is sent to the lab to begin the design process.

Once this stage is complete, the process of fitting the dentures will be very easy and the effort will pay off and you will get a completely comfortable denture that will be more stable and stable because it is specially designed to fit your mouth perfectly.

  • Reveals a very natural appearance.
  • Restores dental functions such as chewing
  • Works to fill the mouth to prevent the appearance of sunken cheeks.
  • Specially designed to be durable and fit in the mouth
  • It takes about 5 years.

Unlike dental implants, dentures do not have anchor roots and therefore nerve signal transmission cannot be effectively carried out through them. While dentures restore tooth function, there are many things you need to do to get used to them. The process of adjusting to dentures takes no more than a few weeks to get your mouth used to eating with dentures, and in the early days it is better to follow a diet that includes soft and easy-to-chew foods. This will give you enough exercise to adapt to the dentures and after that, you can gradually eat a variety of other foods until you return to normal eating. In general, however, there will be some daily restrictions imposed on you by the dentures, such as not being able to chew gum or eat foods that require a lot of chewing, it is also not recommended to eat foods that are too hard or too hot. This is because of the negative effects on the health and safety of the dentures and teeth.

The dentures have their own care routine, which you will start to follow one week after the dentures are fitted and one week after the dentures are fitted you will be able to remove and soak the dentures to allow the gums to breathe. They can be cleaned naturally with saliva.
